Getting Started: Oracle VM
In the early day’s of your career you will always need a lab server to test things you have learnt about oracle before your boss lets you handle production. This blogpost is dedicated to all the new bloomers who are eager to set up a home lab of oracle.
What do i need:
A good computer with at least a 4GB RAM. Lots of patience and dedication
How do i begin:
You can start by downloading oracle virtual box setup, Oracle Linux (32/64 bit depending on your computer) and Oracle Database Binaries. All of this could be downloaded for free from www.oracle.com . A few more softwares could also come handy like WinSCP and Putty.
Lets Start:
Install the Oracle VM (Version 5.0.12 in my case) . Installation is pretty much easy and i will guide your through few hurdles like allocation of disk , installing OS and setting up Network IP for your host machine to talk to your VM servers.
The next step is pretty cool . I use to think that i had to make a bootable pen drive or something to install the os , but oracle had it all figured out, we have to just give the path of the iso image we have downloaded from oracle and it will boot your vm with the os.
Just right click on your machine and go to settings of storage.
All set now start your machine.
We will discuss about setting up network in the next blog post.
